Some animals are pretty uncommon and tend to remain fairly unknown, despite their awesomeness. The silky ant eater is one of them. This tiny creature is the size of an average cat; and exclusively lives in the trees. It was gifted by mother nature with a giant long nose which is really handy while preying on ants, its favorite meal. Being a relatively rare animal, it can only be found in some rain forests in South and Central America.

Another cool feature about the sily anteater resides in its tail. Indeed it posses a prehensile tail, which means it can use it as a hand and grasp it around branches. Don’t be surprised if you spot a silky anteater laying upside down in a tree, just hanging by its tail…

If you ever tried to get an answer to the question who is the biggest dog on earth, you’d probably noticed already that there are at least 4 contenders, and it’s pretty unclear who deserves the title. Giant George was already featured on Amazing Animals, and today I’d like to intoduce you to Giant Gibson. He’s a great dane measuring a whopping 107cm. Back in 2004 gentle giant Gibson was named tallest dog in the world, although the Guiness Book already awarded the title to Giant George.

Unfortunately Gibson was diagnosed with bone cancer back in April 2009 and, sadly, he eventually lost his battle with the disease. The beautiful Harlequin was undergoing chemotherapy and, when he needed to have his front right paw amputated, his owner started Three Paws For the Cause to raise awareness about canine cancer. RIP gentle giant.

Now think of another dimension, in fact just picture yourself the exact opposite in terms of size and you get the biggest horse ever. Actually there are a couple horses who are serious contenders, and it is yet unclear which one officially deserves the title for the record holder. The pictures below feature three of them which on average are 2.30 meters tall (withers bar). They belong to a mixed breed wich individuals were selected throughout the centuries for their outstanding size.

If you liked the Huge ears fennec you will like the chinese jerboa, also known as the long-eared jerboa. This mouse-like rodent lives in the hottest deserts such as the Gobi desert in Mongolia. Since temperatures are tremendously hot at day time, like most mammals in the desert this jerboa is a noctural animal, which shelter in burrows in order to get some shade and some rest. It goes only only at night to prey on some tiny insects. What makes it really special resides in its massive ears, which makes it easy to prey for tiny animals just by listening to them in the dark, especially at night fall.

Jerboas have the ability to hop considerable distances relative to its size, an ability that evolved as an adaptation to help them escape from predators, and to assist with long journeys and foraging in its desert environment.

What comes to people mind when thinking about scary animals usually revolves arounds insects. Althought the giant centipede is not exactly an insect, it certainly will look this scary to you. It can grow up to 50 centimeters, and thanks to its big size combined to its extraordinary hunting skills, it can prey on massive insects, birds, or even small mammals.

Besides that, be sure not to annoy it, because it’s highly poisonous and a single bite can cause a tremendous pain. Fortunately, it appears to not have been involved into a single fatal case.
